Illegal activity for draining the NHIF was intercepted during joint actions of SANS, MoI and the Prosecutor’s office

A joint operation of the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and MoI under the leadership and control of the Regional Prosecutor’s office in Plovdiv on the territory of the municipalities Plovdiv and Pazardzhik was held on 27th of November 2019 during which an illegal activity for draining the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) was intercepted. As a result of the illegal activity the NHIF was damaged in the amount of 500 000 BGN due to unregulated prescribed and received expensive medicines.

With the aim for personal gain the participants in the scheme misled NHIF officials and pharmacists from Plovdiv that certain patients need treatment with expensive medicines, paid by NHIF.

Pretrial proceedings have been initiated concerning the case.

The work on the case is still in progress.



Further to a journalistic material dated 23.10.2019 published on the site entitled “Is the prosecutor general only candidate involved in money laundering? (DOCUMENTS)”, no author, in which a copy of a letter with the letterhead of the State Agency for National Security (SANS) was published with ref.Nr. ФР-10-7326/04.11.2015, signed by the director of the Financial Intelligence Directorate, a check was made within the Agency and it revealed that a document with the same ref. Nr. and content has never been created in SANS.

SANS together with the MoI and the Prosecutor’s Office has intercepted illegal activities carried out by officials of the Plovdiv Regional Office of the Automobile Administration Executive Agency

On 02.10.2019 officers of the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and of the MoI under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office Plovdiv carried out a joint operation to intercept illegal activities performed by officials of the of the Automobile Administration Executive Agency Regional Office in the city of Plovdiv (AAEAROP).

The operation was initiated based on information acquired by SANS. The Automobile Administration Executive Agency at the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications provided full cooperation to the law enforcement authorities.

Pre-trial proceedings have been instituted.

Three AAEAROP officials were detained for 72 hours.

The work on the case is ongoing.
