The Chairman of the State Agency for National Security had a work meeting with the EU Security Union Commissioner, Sir Julian King

The State Agency for National Security (SANS) Chairman, Mr. Dimitar Georgiev, met Commissioner King today, 14 December 2017. They discussed a range of issues and initiatives, focused on countering more effectively the spread of the radicalization and terrorism on a global scale, and in Europe in particular.

Another item on their agenda was the problem with the irregular migration and the efforts of the Bulgarian authorities in dealing with it. The Republic of Bulgaria, as a Member State with external borders for the European Union (EU) is confronted with serious migration pressures and risks related to infiltration of foreign terrorist fighters, travelling to and from conflict zones.

Part of the discussions was also the forthcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Sir Julian King visited the National Counterterrorism Center, operational 24/7, and located at SANS.

The Commissioner for Security Union pointed out that the Bulgarian authorities have made a very positive impact for strengthening the security by establishing in SANS of National Passenger Information Unit for Collection and Processing of Passenger Name Record Data in the Republic of Bulgaria, ranking our country among the first in the EU with functioning Passenger Information Units.
